CAF Levi Strauss Donor Advised Fund 2006-2007

Support is given to some of the most controversial social issues because it has been recognised that they are important to the quality of community life. The charitable purposes of the fund are focussed on the following two issues:-

  1. Building Assets for Women and Youth

    The overarching goal is to change the ownership and distribution of assets and access to economic opportunity to benefit the poor. Projects will achieve this by:

    • Extending Critical Financial Services
    • Creating Supportive Public Policies and Addressing Social Barriers
    • Protecting assets

  2. Preventing the Spread of HIV/Aids in Women and Youth

    The overarching goal is to focus on community initiatives that use empowerment, economic development, education and outreach strategies.Projects will achieve this by:

    • Challenging and reducing HIV/AIDS related stigma and discrimination
    • Layomg the groundwork to change policies or overcome societal barriers for people living with HIV/AIDs to gain access to education, jobs and other services
    • Seeking to change government and organisational policies that impede reduction of HIV/AIDS related stigma and discrimination.

Priority shall go to community based projects in the field of Buidling Assets for Women and Youth.

Support will be given to organisations operating in the following cities, where Levi Strauss & Co. has significant business operation:

  • Warsaw (Poland)
  • Amsterdam (Netherlands)

Second tier and membership organisations have the opportunity to apply for funding to support the work of their members or to alert voluntary organisations to the fund directly.

How much will we give?

Approximately $80,000 will be distributed in Amsterdam (Netherlands) and $120,000 each in Poland. We will give up to two years funding to cover:-

  1. Costs of your initiative
  2. Training/Consultancy costs
  3. Management costs

We do not fund

  1. Individuals
  2. Organisations outside of the cities listed
  3. Co-funded/matched-funded projects
  4. Organisations that discriminate against a person or group on the basis of:
    • age
    • political affiliation
    • race
    • national origin
    • ethnicity
    • gender
    • disability
    • sexual orientation
    • religious belief

We will fund

  • Community based projects in the cities mentioned and falling within the criteria outlined above benefitting women and youths.


THE CLOSING DATE FOR RECEIPT OF COMPLETED APPLICATION FORMS AND ALL SUPPLEMENTARY DOCUMENTATION IS FRIDAY 21st April 2006 AND ALL APPLICANTS WILL BE NOTIFIED OF DECISIONS BY THE END OF JUNE 2006

This fund is administered using CARO, an online application system. This is entirely automated with the completed application form being sent automatically by donors, all correspondence taking place by email, and any grants from the Advised Fund being made bank to bank.
